Nielcen Benitez, a visiting nutritionist in Colombia’s La Guajira measures and weighs Wilmer Epieyu, a seven-year-old Wayuu indigenous boy who suffers from malnutrition. With his 75 centimetres and eight kilos, he has the same weight as a child of 1,5 years of age, says Benitez worryingly. Poverty, a shortage of drinking water and corruption wreak havoc in this desert region inhabited by indigenous Wayúu people.
