Description
"There's overwhelming evidence about the value of migration" says Amy Pope, who is running to become the Director General of the UN's International Organization for Migration (IOM), adding "I think it's critical that we as an organisation lead with that". Pope's comments come as the UK government is embroiled in controversy over its new Illegal Migration Bill, which vows to stop the passage of migrants over the channel on boats. "If you're just looking at the Channel or you're just looking at the Mediterranean, you're just looking at Libya, you have missed about 10 interventions that could have happened along the way" says Pope, "we need to flip that conversation, we need to start looking on the front end. We need to look at why people are leaving." IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
