Description
A group of young scouts, refugees fleeing the conflict in Ukraine, and Czech volunteers produce "trench candles" in Prague for Ukrainian soldiers fighting the Russian forces. The candles can be used as a source of light and heat and they burn long enough to warm food or even dry clothes. The candles, which were used during World War II, are made of crumpled cardboard placed in a tin can which is then filled with hot wax. The material is provided by donors and volunteers. With up to 80 people on a shift, this improvised workshop produces up to 1,500 candles a day. With the help of Rotary International, the scouts send the candles to Kyiv and Dnipro in Ukraine. The Ukrainian scouting organisation then distributes the candles in the country. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
