Nigerians vote in the 2023 gubernatorial elections, with governors to be appointed in 31 out of 36 states across the country. The voting comes in the wake of a presidential election in which Nigeria's two main opposition parties have alleged fraud. All states have a two-term limit for governors, which makes 18 incumbents ineligible for re-election this year, opening up the potential for a major turnover in the powerful position. "This election is a battle for the soul of Lagos" says Gbadebo Rhodes, a Labour Party gubernatorial candidate running in Nigeria's commercial capital, "the will of the people will prevail" he adds.
