Description
The Moroccan Berber village of Ait Kine, perched at an altitude of more than 1,000 metres, is home to one of the country's last collective granaries. These small storage huts, a symbol of a centuries-old community organisation, hold food, such as barley, dates and almonds, as well as manuscripts containing marriage and birth certificates, religious texts and even recipes for magic remedies.
"Our ancestors preserved this building well and we continue to do so too" because the inhabitants "are very attached to their heritage", says Abdelghani Charai, a 60-year-old merchant. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
