Description
This unique golf course in the landlocked Sahel country, located on the outskirts of Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso, is a pioneer in bringing water conservation to this thirstiest of sports. Here there are no greens, but "browns," with the fairways made of earth, stones, and sinewy shrubs rather than manicured lawns. "Burkina is a country where we need water,” says Salif Samaké, the President of the Ouagadougou Golf Club. “We can’t afford to drill in here and cultivate a green while the population needs water to drink.” IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
