Description
Ugandan parliament passes sweeping anti-gay legislation which proposes tough new penalties for same-sex relationships. Addressing the chamber, Bugiri Municipality Member of the Parliament, who tabled the bill, Asuman Basalirwa, says the objective of the law is “to protect traditional family values, our diverse culture, our fates, by prohibiting any form of sexual relations of persons of the same sex.” The bill will next go to President Yoweri Museveni, who can choose to veto or sign it into law.
