Description
There are few places in the world as isolated as Trindade Island, a volcanic outcrop three or four days by boat from the coast of Brazil. However, geologist Fernanda Avalar Santos shows a disturbing sign of human impact on an otherwise untouched landscape: rocks formed by plastic pollution floating in the ocean. "It's incredible the amount of rubbish that arrives on all the beaches of the island through ocean currents," says geologist Avelar Santos, who discovered these 'plastic rocks' during field research for her PhD thesis in 2019.
