Description
In Missouri, dispensaries are now allowed to sell marijuana to adults over 21 years old, following its legalization for recreational use. "We did almost a million dollars in the first three to four days," Louie Sebald, director of cultivation of a large-scale cannabis business, tells AFP. The conservative state in the US Midwest is seeing thousands of cannabis tourists, such as sisters Juree Burgett and Tanya Knight, who drove for three hours from the neighboring state of Kansas - where cannabis is still illegal - to a local Missouri store: "the quality here is so much better. And the price. I mean, it's too expensive on the streets," says Burgett. But not everyone welcomes the legalization. Just a few blocks away from the shop, Ken Vick, who heads a program for people recovering from drug abuse, laments the increased activity: "When somebody is in recovery, the smell of cannabis actually activates part of their brain to where they're going to have cravings."
