Description
Walking through the charred remains of the forested hillsides of Sierra de la Culebra that were devastated by Spain's worst wildfire last year, wildfire expert Pablo Martin Pinto is blunt when he says that the fires that devastated 60,000 hectares in the Sierra de la Culebra were caused by "extraordinary atmospheric situations" triggered partly by the effects of climate change. "There are going to be an increasing number of extraordinary atmospheric situations," he says. Last year, Spain suffered nearly 500 wildfires that devastated huge swathes of land, with experts warning that such California-style blazes were likely to increase.
