Description
Tensions are running high, as security is tightened in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, in a bid to stop anti-government protests over the high cost of living. Police clash with stone-throwing demonstrators in the city’s largest slum Kibera, where protesters set tires on fire, defying a warning by the Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome who said rallies were "illegal" and would be banned. In another slum, Mathare, protestors also face off against police as residents run for cover. Veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga has urged people to take to the streets every Monday and Thursday.
