Description
As France wrestles with the end of life question, some of its citizens are going directly to Belgium to request euthanasia. One of them is Lydie Imhoff, a 43-year-old French woman, hemiplegic -- or paralysed on one side of her body -- from birth. Also visually impaired and losing the use of her limbs, Lydie travelled to Brussels to meet Marc Reisinger, a psychiatrist who could validate her request for assisted suicide. "I don't want to spend the rest of my life in a home" she says, "in a chair where I won't be able to move, where I'll be fed, where I won't even be able to speak... that's not a life". Reisinger explains that a lot of those seeing him "want to know if it is possible" rather than to request immediate action. "Just having the possibility of doing it gives a relief that eliminates the anguish of not knowing the conditions in which you will die" he adds. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
