Nepalis celebrate on the first day of the three days long Chariot festival of the White Machindranath, called Seto Machindranath in local language for his white-painted face. The god is worshipped by both Hindus and Buddhists of the indigenous Newar community of Kathmandu. It takes days to build the metres-long wooden chariot and thick ropes are attached to it to pull the chariot into the old courtyards of Kathmandu. Locals pray to the god for long life and prosperity.
