Description
Almost two months after a deadly earthquake hit Turkey and Syria, many businesses in the quake-struck city of Kahramanmaras have reopened. "The one who has handled the situation best is Recep Tayyip Erdogan" says one shopkeeper. With the country's presidential election just a few weeks away, the fervour for Turkish President Erdogan contrasts sharply with the pain and anger expressed by many when the February 6 disaster erased entire cities across Turkey's mountainous southeast. For the opposition in the city, the challenge is complicated, and rather than engage in direct campaigning, they prefer to focus on helping the survivors. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
