Description
Images of the iconic Ledra Palace hotel, witness to Cyprus's 1974 conflict, in which members of the United Nations' British Household Cavalry Regiment partially reside, where they monitor the island's buffer zone that slices between the internationally recognised Republic of Cyprus and the Turkish-occupied north. The UNFICYP is one of the world’s longest-running UN peacekeeping missions, with 800 troops patrolling a 180-kilometre (110-mile) ceasefire line. It was established in 1964 after fighting between the island’s Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
