Description
Following the devastating Turkey-Syria earthquake, there is growing concern in Romania over the threats posed by seismsic risk, as critics say that measures taken so far are to little and too slow. Romania's capital, Bucharest, is considered the most earthquake-prone capital in Europe in case of a powerful earthquake, with around 20.000 labeled as unsafe.
Since the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria last February, concern has grown in Romania, shaken by images of Turkish devastation, but also by recent medium-magnitude earthquakes in geological areas that are usually not very active. "We are very vulnerable," said Matei Sumbasacu, founder of the Re:Rise group that is pushing to make the city more earthquake safe. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES ARRANGED IN SEQUENCES
