China on Wednesday says that it has "indisputable sovereignty over the islands in the South China Sea and the adjacent waters" in response to a US-Philippine joint statement. China also said that it was "not surprised" at criticism from the United States over French President Emmanuel Macron's view that Europe should uphold strategic autonomy and avoid involving itself in bloc confrontation.
