Description
The Rabat Court of Appeal on Thursday night increased the sentences of three men accused of repeated rape of a girl, after a first instance verdict sparked outrage for its leniency. One of the defendants was sentenced to 20 years in prison and the other two to 10 years each.
"We are satisfied with the verdict which confirmed the conviction of the defendants," says Abdelfattah Zahrach, the lawyer of the girl. However, "after consultation with the family," they will appeal as they believe the defendants who received 10 years "deserve a heavy punishment given the monstrous nature of the acts committed."
