Thousands of people evacuate homes and buildings in Mexico City during a drill for a hypothetical 7.5 magnitude earthquake, amid fears of another fateful coincidence: in the past, the earth has shaken shortly after such drills causing hundreds of deaths. "We have it so deeply rooted in us that it becomes a reality," says Moises Navarro, a resident of Mexico City. The drills are intended to prepare the population for the possibility of an earthquake that could have serious consequences for Mexico City and its metropolitan area, where some 22 million people live.
