After months of intense fighting, almost all residential buildings in eastern Ukraine's Avdiivka are now destroyed, housing around two thousand people that remain despite ongoing shelling. The city is close to another war hotspot, Bakhmut. "People united after 2014, they try to help each other, bring water to pensioners, or chop wood," says volunteer Makar, while Svitlana, a local shopkeeper says "as soon as shooting starts there is no one here".
