Description
No "real pluralism" or "competition" was present for the Uzbekistan constitutional referendum, according to election observers from the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). The head of the OSCE mission in the country, Albert Jonsson, said the referendum took place without any real political opposition. The former Central Asian republic overwhelmingly adopted a new constitution that allows the reformist president, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, to remain in power until 2040. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
