Description
Jacques-Andre Istel is founder, mayor and postmaster general of Felicity, a 2,600-acre (1,052-hectare) stretch in California's Sonora Desert, where for nearly four decades he has been building a museum of the history of humanity.
"This doesn’t exist anywhere else on this planet," the 94-year-old tells AFP.
What started in 1986 with two small houses has grown into an amphitheater of Istel's dreams; a place where the passage of time is marked by a sundial that uses the right arm of God, as painted by Michelangelo in the Sistine Chapel, to cast its shadow.
"It is really the only place on this planet where history is written in granite on actually over 717 on these panels, for visitors and scholars of the future to know something about our present history," says Istel. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
