In the eastern Pyrenees, a department hard hit by the drought and the first major fire of the year in France, which covered about 1,000 hectares on 17 April, firefighters are building up water reserves by making cooperative cellar tanks available. In Rivesaltes, for example, they take water from a campsite swimming pool that has to be emptied to store it in a tank "that will serve as a strategic reserve during the forest fire season", explains Captain Olivier Cyprien.
