Description
Dozens of South Koreans protest a day before Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida's visit to Seoul this weekend as the two countries seek to bury historical animosities and reboot their relationship in the face of a growing threat from North Korea.
One protester spoke out in front of the crowd shouting 'When Prime Minister Kishida arrives tomorrow, he must sincerely apologise for Japan’s crimes against humanity and fulfill its responsibilities. This must be discussed during tomorrow’s summit, and we must demand it.'
Many placards show anger against the trilateral military alliance between South Korea, US, and Japan.
Relations between Seoul and Tokyo -- both key regional US security allies -- have long been strained over Japan's brutal 1910-45 colonial occupation of the Korean peninsula, including the imposition of forced labour and sexual slavery. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
