Description
On a rainy afternoon in Washington DC, Robbin Ebb teaches Double Dutch at a local skate park, hoping to inspire adults to rediscover their childhood sport and a new generation to pick up the ropes. "I don't want any of the kids to say they've never heard or seen jumping Double Dutch," says the lead instructor at DC Retro Jumpers, a group teaching the sport at schools and various events across the US capital. Double Dutch was a popular playground game for African American girls in northern US cities in the 1950s and became an official sport in the 1970s. "It literally sparks something inside of you, (...) your inner child," shares a Double Dutch jumper. "This was our social media," she recalls. "Bringing the Double Dutch back, it will get kids off the couch, get them back outdoors," she adds. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES ARRANGED IN SEQUENCES
