Description
Hazel Tindall is a name that may not be familiar to many people, but in the world of knitting, she is a legend. Known as the "world's fastest knitter", Tindall hails from the remote Scottish island of Shetland, where locals first started exchanging knitwear for supplies like flour and sugar with passing fishermen centuries ago. But the discovery of oil off the island in the 1970s, mechanisation and cheap imports pushed many into to more lucrative professions and now locals, like Tindall, 70, fear the island’s once thriving hand knitting tradition is facing extinction. "I reckon in 10 years time, you won't be able to come here and buy any hand knitted stuff," she laments. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES ARRANGED IN SEQUENCES
