Description
Two days before Turkey's most momentous elections in generations, the streets of Istanbul are decorated with posters of the two main rivals, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Kemal Kilicdaroglu. But while daily life seems to continue as before, the only thing people are talking about is politics. Their views are as sharply divided as ever about Turkey's Islamic-rooted ruler and his secular rival. "There are dark hands and dark forces at play. Anything can and will happen in Turkey. We have a bloody election process ahead of us," Kudbettin Budak, owner of a small grocery store, worries. Nevin Toy, a Turkish-German who is a strong supporter of Erdogan adds, "I would rather burn everything myself than ever hand anything over to the opposition." IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
