Description
"Bayelsa is a silent crisis, but one far in excess of anything that we've witnessed and been scandalized by to date",says the chair of the Bayelsa State Oil and Environmental Commission Kathryn Nwajiaku Dahou as they publish a report showing how cleaning up decades-long oil pollution and restoring environmental health in this Nigerian crude-producing state will cost at least $12 billion. "I hope that this report will make a difference" says local ruler King Bubarye Dakolo who believes oil companies should be held accountable for destroying the region's fishing and farming ressources.
