Description
Taliban government officials mark International Museum Day in Kabul’s National Museum of Afghanistan, vowing to protect the country’s heritage and artefacts. During the celebrations, a play depicting how authorities are fighting against looting and smuggling of artefacts was shown. An exhibit on Mes Aynak, an ancient Buddhist city now threatened by a Chinese copper mine, was also inaugurated. When the Taliban were last in power they shocked the world by dynamiting the giant Buddhas of Bamiyan in March 2001. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
