Oleksandra can only laugh bitterly as she looks over the ash and soot-covered mess that her Kyiv apartment has become, wondering why she ever bothered to clean her now-filthy winter clothes. She was lucky to escape after a fragment of a drone downed over the Ukrainian capital hit her apartment, blowing a big hole in her ceiling and setting the block alight. "When I went back into the apartment for the cat, the ceiling collapsed on me. The police and firemen literally dragged me out of the apartment" she says.
