Wading through the upper thigh-high water in khaki-coloured dungarees, Mauro Lodola watches on as an unhinged door float pasts him. Having planted three hectares of new vines in the now-submerged fields he leases at his cousin's farm in the Ravenna countryside, he can only hope that his plants weather the devastation caused by the floods described as Italy's worst in a century. "It's hard because sometimes you hope everything will pass, you move on, you start again," he laments.
