Description
"I'm getting better and better at concentrating and finding strategies," explains Maxim Piccavet, a teenager with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), who is learning the basics of chess at the Medical-educational Institute (IME) of Villers, near Paris. This establishment is one of four French centres to have taken part in the test phase of the Infinite Chess Programme, run by the French Chess Federation (FFE), which aims to assess the benefits of this cerebral sport for young people with cognitive and/or autistic disorders.
