Description
Finland's border guards are out in force near Imatra, on the Russian border, where NATO's most recent member is building 200 kilometres of fencing on its eastern flank. Three metres (10 feet) tall and topped with barbed wire, it will cost around 380 million euros ($417 million) and is due to be completed by 2026 - but border officials hope the first test section will be in operation much earlier than that. "We hope and we have a very good estimate that we will finish this project end of July and that we will have this test fence in operation and used in August," Lieutenant Colonel Jukka Lukkari tells AFP.
