Description
Russians attend the opening viewing of Andrei Rublev's historic "Trinity" icon at Moscow's Christ the Saviour Cathedral after it was moved from the State Tretyakov Gallery in a gesture seen as tightening the alliance between the Kremlin and religious leaders. Visitors mostly express elation at the icon's arrival, with Denis Timofeev, 42, calling it "a significant event for all the Orthodox people of our country, as well as the people of Belarus and Ukraine." However Svetlana Abdulova, a student, insists the icon's transportation "will lead to the loss of such a valuable artifact," while a bemused Eugene Pupin, 37, wonders "why have they [ed: the visitors] not visited the Tretyakov Gallery all these years?"
