With their hands in the dirty water, a dozen young volunteers search the lagoon around Abidjan, looking for used plastic bottles. After a few minutes, they hoist a large net on the bank filled with hundreds of bottles that they will sell to recyclers. "The idea of cleaning up the shoreline came from the need to clean up the environment in which I live," says the initiator of plastic waste collection in Plateau Bay, Charles Gore Bi.
