Description
Greenpeace CEE campaigner, Denys Tsutsaiev, says "it will take from three to 10 years for different species to recover, if some of them will be able to recover" in the aftermath of destruction of the Kakhovka dam in southern Ukrainian Kherson region. The area in which the dam is located is controlled by Russian forces, yet both countries have traded blame for the catastrophy that flooded villages and towns, forcing thousands to flee. "Speaking about the consequences for the nuclear power plant" says Tsutsaiev, addressing the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant, found upstream of the breached dam, "if the worst event happens... Greenpeace researchers estimate that hundreds of kilometres of land might be unable for habitat for the next decades." IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
