Description
The bite of a highly venomous snake can be fatal but usually treatable with antivenom, which is in short supply according to some vets and experts in South Africa. “Every single animal that dies that we could have saved its life, is hard for all of us,” says a vet at the Valley Farm Animal Hospital, Dean de Kock. The government however denies that there is any shortage. “They just say no we are talking nonsense,” says head of the African Snakebite Institute, Johan Marais, “but if I order antivenom right now they can't supply me.” IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
