Description
Informal fuel vendors in Cotonou anxiously wait by the roadside for customers, as fewer motorcycles and cars stop to buy cheap petrol illegally imported from neighbouring Nigeria. That’s because the price of a litre of "Kpayo", illegal petrol, has doubled, from 350 to 700 CFA francs (from 0.5 to about 1 euros). “It is Nigeria that allows Benin to breathe. When Nigeria stops breathing, Benin suffers,” says moto-taxi driver Jean-Baptiste Tutu. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
