Description
French Ministry of the Interior spokesperson Camille Chaize says around 3,000 demonstrators, including around 300 radical members, protested near the village of Saint Remy-de-Maurienne in southeastern France, in defiance of a ban on demonstrations.
French police fired tear gas as they clashed with protesters seeking to stop the construction of a new high-speed train line between France and neighbouring Italy which opponents argue will wreck the fragile Alpine environment. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
