"It doesn't make sense," comments the cousin of Sophie Le Tan's father, Laurent Tran Van Mangh, on the first day of Jean-Marc Reiser's appeal trial for the murder of the student in 2018. "He's trying to be sincere, but I remind you that he's appealed. If he really had regrets, why are we getting a new trial today?". "Mr Reiser is very litigious. He is someone who is extremely intelligent when it comes to crime, who knows the Assize Court and criminal procedure, and so he will go all the way," added the family's lawyer, Gérard Welzer.
