Description
After a two-year conflict in Ethiopia, the Ashenda festival is a chance for Tigrayan women to celebrate their identity, wearing traditional hairstyles and clothing. "But after all of it (the war), we all came back to love and unity and celebrating together. That makes it so special" says one participant, Danawit Tesfaye. Originally a Christian festival marking the end of a 15-day fast commemorating the Assumption of Mary, Ashenda has evolved into a celebration that transcends religion. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
