File images show supporters of Igor Girkin, a former Russian separatist commander better known by his pseudonym, "Strelkov", gathering after his arrest in late July. "He is a five-time war veteran and a leader of public opinion" says Pavel Gubarev, one of Girkin's comrades in eastern Ukraine, where he led the "Republic of Donetsk", a paramilitary group fighting Kyiv's pro-Western government. Girkin's trial begins on August 29, with the Kremlin critic facing up to five years in prison, accused of "public calls for extremism." FILE IMAGES
