While William Doherty boards up his home and prepares to evacuate ahead of Hurricane Idalia’s landfall in Florida, 71-year-old John Paul Nohelj has decided to stay put. Most of the residents of Steinhatchee have left or are preparing to flee the western Florida coastal town following a mandatory evacuation order.
Tropical Storm Idalia strengthened into a hurricane on Tuesday, and was bearing down on the Gulf coast of Florida, the US National Hurricane Center said.
