Description
To supply her household with water, Geneviève Boussougou, a 58-year-old Gabonese woman, has to stock her house with cans and basins. In her neighbourhood of Bellevue II, right in the centre of Libreville, residents have access to water via a public fountain, which is only open a few hours a week, often in the middle of the night. The rest of the time, residents who can't go to other neighbourhoods or buy mineral water have to draw untreated water from a well dug in the ground. "It's very dangerous for your health," says Dourien Doudouma, a resident of Bellevue II. Like them, many Gabonese are finding it difficult to obtain water, a priority set by General Oligui Nguema's new transitional government.
