Description
More than fifty world sites will find out by 25 September whether they have joined UNESCO's World Heritage list at a meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, while some incumbents, including Venice and Kyiv, face the risk of a downgrade. Six sites could be declared "in danger", joining the 55 already on that watchlist. Venice is in danger from rising water levels, attributed to climate change, and excessive numbers of tourists, says Lazare Eloundou Assomo, UNESCO's Director of World Heritage. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
