Description
A major new exhibition on the creations of Coco Chanel is opening at London’s V&A Museum. Entitled ‘Gabrielle Chanel - Fashion Manifesto’ it includes pieces from across the career of the famous fashion designer, from one of her earliest creations in 1916 to ballgowns and suits from the 1970s. Based on an exhibition displayed at the Palais Galliera Fashion Museum in Paris, the V&A show adds more than 100 outfits and focuses more on Chanel’s British connections, with many of the materials used by her fashion house made in the UK. The show also draws on newly revealed documents which show that Coco Chanel was listed as an occasional agent for the French resistance. Chanel has also been accused of working with France’s Nazi occupiers during the war, with exhibition curator Oriole Cullen saying the show looks at "both sides of the story." IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
