Aligned in six rows, 360 photovoltaic panels will, on Thursday, begin providing electricity to an old maritime traffic radio station now converted into a base camp for tourists on the Norwegian archipelago known as Svalbard, some 1.300km away from the North Pole. "By doing this here at Isfjord radio, testing the technology, getting it approved for the Arctic, we can actually take this out to other communities" says Mons Ole Sellevold, a technical adviser to Norwegian company Store Norske.
