Born to an Armenian mother and an Azerbaijani father, retired university maths professor Anvar Ganjaliyev remembers the Soviet times, before the conflict ripped Nagorno-Karabakh apart. "We all were brotherly and friendly towards one another and always accepted one another kindly", he says.
