Description
A newborn elephant recently took its first steps in Aceh, Indonesia, representing a significant addition to the conservation efforts of critically endangered Sumatran elephants. Suci, an elephant that assists officials in reducing conflicts between people and wildlife in the area, gave birth to the calf named Yuna last Wednesday at the Alu Kuyun Conservation Response Unit in Meulaboh, Aceh. Yuna contributed to the protection of Sumateran elephants, which are on the verge of extinction, with only about 2,400-2,800 remaining in the world. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
