A spokesman for China's defence ministry slams Taiwan's strategy of protecting itself from encirclement by China with its first domestically built submarines as "idiotic nonsense".
Taiwan unveiled the first prototype of the sub, named "Hai Kun" in Chinese, meaning "mythical sea creature", and dubbed "Narwhal" in English, at a ceremony in the southern city of Kaohsiung on Thursday. (See videos 33WW7ER / 33WT8YL for images) IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
